Another Way to Support the Red Cross
Many of you have probably
seen the “Proud To Be An American” license plates on vehicles while out and
about. Perhaps you even have one on your own vehicle. Did you know that the
Michigan Red Cross and Salvation Army split approximately $25.00 for every
license plate purchase to go toward special funding needs in the State of
Michigan? For Red Cross alone, over the past four years, we have received
more than one million dollars that have been used for disaster relief and
preparedness in the State. Locally, this special fund has allowed numerous
Midland/Gladwin Disaster Action Team volunteers to attend the Michigan
Training Institute at a reduced registration, attendance and course
materials fee. This institute provides the intermediate and advanced level
courses that are necessary for our volunteer and paid staff to increase
their disaster response capabilities and preparedness knowledge and in turn,
assist Midland and Gladwin Counties and the nation prevent, prepare for, and
respond to emergencies when they occur.
However, this fund is drying up and we need YOUR help now. Since the
traditional blue and white license plates will no longer be available, when
thinking about replacing your current plates, please consider the “Proud To
Be An American” plates and help the Red Cross while you’re at it!
