Overview of Chapter Services:
| The American Red Cross of Midland and Gladwin
Counties offers disaster assistance in the form of food, clothing, shelter
and other unmet emergency needs to victims of fires and other natural
disasters if there are no other resources available. We also provide
training programs in disaster preparedness and relief for volunteers
interested in joining our Disaster Action Teams.
Emergency disaster assistance is free of charge and available 24 hours a day.
In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the
assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable
them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from
concerned family members outside the disaster area, and helps those affected
by disaster to access other available resources. |
|
| You can save a life! For nearly a
century, the American Red Cross has prepared people to save lives through
health and safety education and training. From first aid, CPR and bloodborne
pathogens training to swimming and lifeguarding, HIV/AIDS education and
Babysitter's Training, American Red Cross Preparedness programs help people
lead safer and healthier lives. The Red Cross constantly strives to respond
to the preparedness concerns of Americans at home, in school and in the
workplace. Today's innovative programs also include teaching lay persons and
professionals how to use automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to save
victims of sudden cardiac arrest. |

Other Chapter Services:
| The "Talking Newspaper" is a service designed
especially for the blind and visually impaired as well as handicapped
residents of Midland/Gladwin Counties which provides its clients the
opportunity of hearing many news and feature articles that might not be
available through radio and television.
Each week the Midland Daily News is edited for current articles of interest.
These articles are recorded on tape cassettes and sent directly to each
client's residence. After listening to the tape, the client returns it
in the pre-addressed mailer that is provided and the tape is reused.
The "Talking Newspaper" service is free of cost to every
client. The tape is provided by the Red Cross and volunteers of Midland
County. For more information or to refer a potential client,
